Henry Albert Azaria is an American actor, stuntman, comedian and producer. He was born on April 25, 1964 in Queens, New York, the son of Ruth (Altchek) and Albert Azaria. He grew up in a Jewish environment, also learning his family’s spoken language, Ladino, an old-fashioned Spanish dialect written in Hebrew characters. Azaria attended The Kew-Forest School in Forest Hills and later studied drama at Tufts University from 1981 to 1985 and subsequently trained at the American Academy of Dramatic Art.

Azaria’s first acting job was a commercial for Italian television when he was seventeen. He made his television debut with a role in the pilot episode of the 1986 ABC comedy-drama series Joe Bash with Peter Boyle. Azaria appeared in the TV movie Nitti: The Enforcer, about gangster Frank Nitti, and appeared in the failed pilot Morning Maggie alongside Matthew Perry, with whom he became good friends. He played Joe in a 1988 episode of the sitcom Family Ties in which he had a line, and the following year played Steve Stevenson in an episode of Growing Pains.
Azaria became famous for his voice work on the animated television series The Simpsons beginning in 1989.
